Exploring Precious Metal Clay

Try something new for the new year! Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is an amazing material that’s worked like a water-based clay but, when fired at high temperature, becomes a solid metal object. Learn the basics
in this fun & relaxed class. Students will be shown how to work with fine silver clay to make simple, layered earrings. Want extra bling? Learn how to securely set colorful CZ gems, fired right in place. Pieces will be left for Donna to fire after class.

Precious Metal Clay: Shadowbox Pendant

Learn to add a little drama to your PMC creations! Make a pure silver metal clay pendant, any shape you like, with a hollow space that will show off a little sculptural element of your making- shiny silver against deep black. Donna will also show ways of creating an attachment point (metal clay loop, fire-in-place wire ring, etc) for dangles you can add after the piece is fired, such as a tiny silver “something” made in class, a special bead on a headpin, or a cluster of bead strands that add movement and interest. Pieces will be left for Donna to fire after class.

- Approximately 100 4mm round Czech fire polish beads
- No 10 or 12 beading needle

(Optional: Focal bead, Head pins, Closed ring, Crystals and head pins to embellish the focal bead)

Note: One continuous chain may be made for a choker or two pieces joined by a focal bead.

Knitted Bead

Create a knitted and beaded necklace while learning three methods of applying seed beads to your knitted creations. We will create a 3 bead necklace in the class. Most knitters will finish their necklace in the 3 hour class.

Kits will be available to purchase, as well as knitting needles and beading needles. The kit includes Koigu yarn, size 6/0 Japanese seed beads, wooden Beads, a cord and the pattern. The kit fee is $25.00, made payable to the instructor. If you have your own sock weight yarn and seed beads, you are welcome to use them.

You will also need size US 0 double point needles and a beading needle. Instructor will have scissors, tapestry needles and crochet hooks on hand.

Zig-Zag Bangle

In this class, students will make a Casting Pod to their specific size, then start a 6 point cuff from it. This Pod can be used over and over again to create more cuffs. Other size and point options will be discussed.

Please note: photo depicts a 12 point cuff. For the sake of everyone's sanity, we will be making a 6 point cuff.

*Students must be familiar with peyote stitch.

This silver PMC design looks like an ice cream sandwich or Oreo cookie, but it's hollow inside. The two main sides can be made in any shape you like. They can be decorated the same way or very differently from one another- two looks for the price of one! Tassel with PMC Cap

First, make a gorgeous, fine silver bead cap from Precious Metal Clay (PMC). Then, while that’s in the kiln, adorn a tassel with your choice of beads, and learn some basic wireworking skills for hanging the tassel. After a quick polish and patina, your bead cap will be ready to assemble with wire, tassel, and beads to make a pretty pendant you can wear home!

Tangent Pendant

Fused heavy gauge wire, unusual weaving and an amazing bead or cabochon are some of the things that set this pendant apart from so many others. The techniques you will learn to apply to wire are taken from drawn thread embroidery.

Kit fee: $25, including printed tutorial, wire, choice of beads or cabs, use of torch.Without bead or cabochon, kit is $20. Class size is limited to 5 due to space constraints while working with flame.

PMC Lentil Whistle

Make a delightful little whistle pendant out of silver clay! No experience is necessary for this fun project. Donna will explain how a whistle works, then show you step-by-step how to make a hollow “lentil” shape and transform it into a cheerful-sounding whistle. Just wait till you hear it sing! Back to Basics: Bead Embroidery

Learn from experienced teacher and jewelry designer, Barb Cherwaty! Barb will be at CBB 30 minutes before class to help with selection of materials. Make three beaded flat-backed components in class. In an followup class, put them together to make a bracelet. The bracelet from which this photo was taken, has nine individual components. The design came together after individual components.

- Three cabochons (flat backed crystals, stones, or glass)
- Coordinating seed beads in sizes 11/0 and 15/0

Flat Pearl Bracelet

Learn to make this stunning and simple twist on classic pearls!

Supplies:
- 10 or 12mm coin pearls
- Variety of 4-6mm round or rondelle pearls
- 1'' ball pins
- 22 gauge wire
- 7 or 8mm jump rings
- Clasp

(All beads can be substituted with gemstones or glass and sterling silver or base metal findings are acceptable.)

Serpentine Woven Earrings

Supplies:
- 20 gauge wire
- 26 gauge wire (can be matching, or for a different look, contrasting colors of wire)
- (2) 4-6mm closed jump rings
- Matching ear wires.

Tools:
- Chain nose pliers
- Round nose pliers
- Painter's tape or rubber clamp
- Nylon jaw pliers
- Wire cutters
- Ruler
- Mini kumihimo or sewing bobbin (to wind weaving wire on -- reduces kinks)
- Magnifiers if you normally use them for close work
(Tools are available to be borrowed/purchased from the store, but students are more than welcome to bring their own as well!)
